• Numbering Convention Ford’s part number convention generally follows the format of a four digit casting code, followed by a four digit basic part number, which will be “6015” for an engine block, followed by the revision version.
  • The 351C block casting number and date code are located just above the starter. This D2AE CA casting number indicates a four-bolt main block according to the Ford Master Parts Catalog, but not all are. This casting date code “2F30” means February 30, 1972. This is a head-on view of the 400 Cleveland block, which has a 10.987-inch deck height.
  • The casting number is the Ford part number for the engine block, 'D4AE-6015-AA-10,' for example. The most important part of the casting number is the four-position prefix. The remaining casting number sections are not necessary for identification. Decode the casting number. According to Mustang Tek.com, the prefix D4AE decodes as an engine.
